Class Visit

Some class visits are smooth as pie. Some class visits make you want a nap, a drink, or a good cry afterwards. For a number of reasons, today's visit was the latter. It wasn't anyone's fault, it was just one of those days where everything possible was going wrong.

However, as usual, the kids (first graders this time) had some funny/interesting things to say to me. A sampling:

"You look like you're from England."

"I'm going to tell my teacher that you're funny."

"Your hair looks better not in a ponytail. If you have it down you look like Barbara."
(I have no idea who Barbara is, so maybe she meant Barbie? Which would make even less sense.)

(As I was about to start reading a book to them): "Can we just get this book over with?"

(After I read the *book): "I love that book!"

"What is that?"
"It's my wedding ring."
"Who is your husband? TELL ME!!!"
"My husband is Michael."
"Your husband is MICHAEL??!?!" (They have no idea who Michael is.)

And to end on the highest of notes,

"Thank you for finding me the best book EVER."

(It was a Disney Fairies graphic novel, FYI.)

I guess it all worked out.

*(We read Animal Soup by Todd H. Doodler which is a fantastic book for a group of lively kids. They were hysterical. Check it out.)

  1. I get things like:

"You wore that shirt the LAST time I was here."

"Where are all the fact books about Star Wars?"

    "Is that tattoo real?"

    and my personal favorite:

"I remember when you came to my school for the assembly. You wore a Minecraft shirt and had a STICK!" To this day I have no idea why the tree branch from the parking lot, a prop in my skit, was that exciting. It was a year ago and they STILL talk about it.
