We are really gearing up now for advocacy season, people! We have petitions and coloring pages and everything!
Here's a really quick and easy way to help NYC libraries stay open and funded
again this year.
The three systems each have their own form to submit to local politicians and the mayor so that they can see that residents (read: voters) care about NYC libraries. It takes just a minute, and it does make a real difference, I promise. I've provided the links below!
If you live in Brooklyn, here's your petition.
If you live in Queens, here's your petition.
If you live in Manhattan, Staten Island, or the Bronx, here's your petition. (Click "send a letter.")
Here at BPL we also have some "coloring pages" for the kids to fill out so that they can express why they think libraries are important. Here's the first one I got (from, full disclosure, a tween girl who once called me her "best friend...well, my best friend in the library"):
As you can see, there are many reasons that kids need the library. (And I SWEAR, I did not make her mention me. It was a lovely little surprise. But that kind of thing is just another reason why I #lovemylibraryjob.)
Thanks for your support, NYC residents!
